Maintenance Walkways & Access Ladders
Creating safe access for maintenance contractors and personnel, Heightsafe’s specialist teams designed, supplied and installed GRP Walkways and Access Ladders for one of the UKs largest nuclear fuel reprocessing and decommissioning sites, that required safe access routes across a newly installed modular building roof space.
The award of the project followed a stringent six month vetting process, allowing our staff to obtain a Baseline Personnel Security Standard. The safety and security of this nuclear site is an overriding priority and this was factored into the scope of works and pre-site operations and planning. Opting for a GRP Walkway that is an entirely freestanding system, prevented the need to penetrate through the client’s metal roof. This nuclear site can now ensure that contractors and personnel have compliant, safe access with a new structure that is:
- Chemically resistant
- Fire retardant
- Low maintenance
- High strength to weight ratio
Galvanised steel handrails supported by durable, recycled rubber counterbalanced weights around the walkway, also provide the roof with adequate edge protection.
