Pragmatic Roof Access Systems – Ensuring Safety and Efficiency
The Client
Pragmatic Semi-Conductor, a pioneering force in semiconductor innovation, has been redefining fabrication processes with its revolutionary FlexIC technology. As part of their expansion strategy, Pragmatic acquired a new warehouse in Durham to accommodate their growing operations. However, the absence of essential roof access and safety solutions posed a significant challenge to the ongoing maintenance and operational requirements of the facility. In response, Pragmatic partnered with Heightsafe to address this challenge effectively.
The Brief
The newly acquired warehouse in Durham presented Pragmatic with the urgent need to establish safe and efficient roof access. Without existing access or safety systems in place, ensuring the maintenance of solar panels, plant systems, and overall roof upkeep became a pressing concern. Heightsafe was entrusted with the task of designing and implementing a comprehensive solution tailored to Pragmatic’s specific requirements and the unique characteristics of the warehouse’s roof structure.

The Solution
Heightsafe’s dedicated team embarked on a meticulous design process, considering the unique roof build-up and size of the Durham Warehouse. Following a thorough evaluation, it was determined that the installation of two Fixed access ladders would provide the most effective solution. These included a ground-to-main-roof ladder equipped with a lockable gate for controlled access, as well as a secondary ladder facilitating access from the main roof to the upper roof level. Additionally, Heightsafe supplied, installed, tested, and certified a safety line system along the perimeter, ridge, valley, and upper roof to ensure comprehensive protection for personnel working at height.
The Outcome
The successful implementation of Fixed Access Ladders and Safety Lines by Heightsafe has empowered Pragmatic to execute essential maintenance, cleaning, and upkeep tasks on its plant systems, solar panels, and roof infrastructure with utmost safety and efficiency. Each component underwent rigorous testing by Heightsafe’s experienced engineers to meet and exceed industry standards. The access ladders achieved full compliance with BS4211, demonstrating their robustness and reliability, while the safety lines were tested to EN795 Class C standards, ensuring optimal protection for personnel working at height.
