The Client
The Rumfields Water Tower dominates the skyline of Broadstairs, Kent and has done since construction in the 1930’s. Situated on the boundary of the former Ramsgate Municipal Airport site, the Rumfields Water Tower is now surrounded by residential properties.
The site is managed and maintained by Delron Services Ltd. Delron have a history of maintaining a variety of complex building types for many health authorities, local councils and companies in the private sector.
The Brief
Delron contacted Heightsafe to remove and replace a bespoke Roof Access Ladder System using intricate rope access methods. Due to the height of the tower and the confined space in which the ladder would be situated, we called upon our specialist rope access installation team to complete the job.
The Solution
The 8500mm Roof Access Ladder was fabricated specifically for the requirements of the ladder location within the Rumsfield Water Tower. Due to the bespoke nature of the ladder system, the unit had to be hoisted through the centre of the tower, using an overhead lifting eye and winch system.
As you’ll see from the image above, the section of the Water Tower housing the ladder system would be described as a confined space and meant that bespoke fabrication was necessary in order to achieve the desired finish and level of safety.
The Outcome
Following the successful installation of the Roof Access Ladder System, all other Work at Height systems on site were tested to ensure they are safe and compliant with the current British Standards. Delron Services can now access the roof safely to carry out any necessary roof maintenance or cleaning duties.
