AECC University College in Bournemouth is a specialist health sciences university offering world-renowned courses in health sciences for over 1,000 students, with approximately 50,000 patient contacts per year. Since their doors opened in 1965, AECC University College has been a leader in musculoskeletal health and wellbeing. They provide services in chiropractic, physiotherapy, psychology, sports, exercise and health science, radiology, and imaging science.
Plans have been approved and work is underway for a new Integrated Rehabilitation Centre to be created on their Garnet Campus by Mildren Construction. Heightsafe were contacted to create a Working at Height Systems package suitable for the new building.
The new building features green roofs at the front and rear of the building as well as a metal deck roof space, with all areas requiring Fall Restraint Systems to be installed, along with a Walkway System to the standing seam roof.
Heightsafe were able to design bespoke Safety Line Systems for both the green roof areas and the metal roof, with each system having specific fixing detail depending on the type of surface the Safety Lines are installed upon.
The green roof area required back-plated posts due to being installed to a composite concrete deck, and the metal deck roof area required a rivet fixed detail due to being installed directly to standing seam roof sheets. Upon completion of the green roof installation, engineers will revisit the site to install the lines to the already fixed posts.
The Walkway System was installed alongside the Safety Line System on the standing seam roof to allow for safe and level access for those who require access to the area.
Heightsafe were able to provide a bespoke Work at Height Solution for the new Integrated Rehabilitation Centre at AECC University College, with all systems being tested and tagged upon completion; providing complete peace of mind that the systems have been installed and certified by Work at Height professionals.
