Chester Zoo are not only internationally renowned, but also the most visited zoo in the UK (1.9million visitors each year) with 21,000 extraordinary animals and 125 acres of zoological gardens. The zoo is also committed to preventing extinction through their conservation and education charity.
The Brief
Work at Height and Roof Access Systems are utilised by both zookeepers and maintenance personnel across the sites 125 acres of zoological gardens. To ensure all personnel utilising these systems are safe whilst Working at Height, annual compliance testing by a competent specialist was required.
In addition to these systems, many of the zoo’s buildings include Lightning Protection and Surge Arrest systems, which require inspection and testing once every 11 months to remain compliant with regulations.
The Solution
Heightsafe’s dedicated Compliance and Fabric Maintenance team provided a cost-effective solution for the zoo’s Compliance Testing and Lightning Protection requirements – providing an annual combined contract to ensure systems can be tested on the same site visit.

All Work at Height, Roof Access and Lightning Protection systems have been compliance tested by Heightsafe’s competent specialists. With expert aftercare teams actioning all remedial requirements in a timely manner, the zoo will experience minimal down time to their activities.
