The Client
Winvic Construction, established in 2001 is a multidisciplinary, leading main contractor specialising in industrial, build-to-rent, student accommodation and civil engineering projects.
Working alongside London-based development firm PLATFORM_, Dumballs Road in Cardiff is a build-to-rent (BTR) project comprising of 206 one and two-bedroom apartments complete with on-site gym, lounge, roof terraces and parking facilities across the 150,000 sq. ft scheme.

The Brief
Heightsafe were tasked with designing, installing and certifying a comprehensive Façade Access Package for the roof spaces of the Dumballs Road development. Our design team decided that a combination of guardrails, safety lines and davit posts on the roofs of both structures would be the ideal solution, creating a safe working area while the site is under construction and allowing operatives to clean and maintain the roof and facades of the building upon completion.
The davit posts will allow operatives to abseil down the façade of the buildings, and the safety lines and guardrails are there for workers to safely carry out tasks on the roof.
The Solution
Heightsafe installed over 300 metres of safety line systems across the composite concrete deck roofs and secured the posts with a back plate, all tested to BS EN 795 Class C. 100 davit sockets were installed and tested to BS EN 795 Class A and LOLER 1998, along with 166 metres of guardrail in accordance with BS EN 13374 Class A.
The Outcome
The combined systems deliver a complete safety solution for roof and façade access. When the building’s construction is complete and access to the façade is necessary for maintenance works and cleaning tasks, it can be done so efficiently and safely with minimal disruption for residents.
