Fall Protection Solution for UK Train Factory

Client:

The Client

A leader of the railway industry, CAF are an international company with over 100 years’ experience in the supply of comprehensive transit solutions.

The company has now expanded into the UK, with the opening of a new 15,000m2 factory in Newport, Wales – home to activities including the assembly and testing of a full range of rail vehicles.

The Brief

With CAF’s new factory being home to activities including the assembly and testing of a full range of rail vehicles, personnel require access to the top of trains to complete various inspections and activities.

To ensure these personnel are protected whilst Working at Height, CAF’s team contacted Heightsafe to provide a bespoke overhead solution.

The Solution

Heightsafe were able to provide a bespoke solution to meet CAF’s maintenance requirements with the layout design, supply and installation of two 150metre long Overhead Fall Arrest Tracks from European supply partners, Fallprotec.

In addition to the Overhead Fall Arrest Tracks, Heightsafe’s specialist operatives also installed bespoke support steel work to connect the system to the factory’s roof structure.

The Outcome

Coordination was key for this project, as to not cause major disruption to any other contractors working on site. Heightsafe’s specialist Installation and Special Projects division worked closely with the main contractor to ensure the package was delivered in time for the opening of CAF’s new 15,000m2 factory in Newport Wales.

Personnel who will be assembling and testing a full range of rail vehicles in the space, now have a bespoke Fall Protection solution to protect them whilst Working at Height.

Testimonial

The fall arrest equipment was the last part to be fitted to the ceiling. This meant all the easy options for fitting had been taken by lights, heaters and other ducting. By working around all these, and leaving room for future fitting of overhead high voltage lines, you truly excelled yourselves as an organisation.
