As one of the UK’s leading aerospace companies and one of the largest suppliers of defence and security equipment to the UK Ministry of Defence, Leonardo contributes significantly to the UK’s economy with revenues of almost £2bn.
With 7 sites across the UK, their Basildon office employs over 600 people and creates thermal imaging cameras that act as secure communications and surveillance systems to help pilots of British Army Chinook helicopters when flying in pitch black conditions.
Heightsafe were contacted to provide a Fall Protection system that can be used in their warehouse facility on the Basildon site. Our client requested a system that would provide an arrest in the event of a fall when working on top of large vehicles in the area.
Fall Arrest Systems ‘catch’ the user if a fall were to occur. Rescue plans are devised to recover the user and bring them to the ground safely.
Heightsafe designed, supplied, installed, and tested two Overhead Fall Arrest Tracks for Leonardo. The system was installed directly into the purlins, caters to up to 6 harness points and allows for movement across the designated area.
Our service was inclusive of all PPE harnesses and testing and certification of the system in accordance with current British Standards.
Leonardo is now confident that their operatives can safely access vehicles in their warehouse area and are protected in the event of a fall. The overhead rail allows movement along the vehicle and does not obstruct day to day activities as the rail is out of the way.
