Platform Access Ladder and Safety Lines Installation for Argos Local Fulfilment Centre

Client:

The Client

Argos, established in 1973 is a leading UK retailer, offering thousands of products to customers through their website, app, in-store and via collection points. In recent years, they have expanded their distribution network through the introduction of Local and Regional Fulfilment Centres. The centres hold over 35,000 Argos products for local distribution, to ensure customers receive fast, efficient delivery.

The distribution centres have also provided a number of additional jobs and has vastly increased their sales for both Fast Track delivery and collection orders.

The Brief

Heightsafe were contacted to provide a Roof Access Solution for the new Local Fulfilment Centre in Manchester. The site consists of a large warehouse space to house 35,000 products and more than 100 employees. There is office and recreational space in the upstairs area, as well as facilities and other equipment storage.

There was a need for ladders to access higher levels within the space and the site required a Fall Restraint System to allow safe access around the roof area.

The Solution

Heightsafe’s design team devised a number of Aluminium Access Ladders, for access to upper levels and the main roof. The largest ladder ran from the ground floor to the main roof and was more than 13 metres tall – this was broken up with two aluminium platforms.

A second ladder was needed to access the office roof from the first floor, and a third to access the main roof from the office roof. The systems were installed fully compliant to BS 4211.

In addition to the ladders, Safety Line Systems were installed to the main roof metal deck, fully compliant with BS EN 795.

The Outcome

The Roof Access Systems installed by our team provide a safe and efficient route to the roof space at the new Argos Local Fulfilment Centre in Manchester. The relevant personnel can safely access the areas for maintenance and cleaning works, ensuring the site is able to run smoothly, safe in the knowledge that those working at height can do so without danger.
