Kee Guard FoldShield Installation at Rangeford Villages
The Client
Rangeford Villages is a leading developer and operator of luxury retirement communities across the UK, creating aspirational environments designed exclusively for the over-60s. Their developments combine independent living with high-quality facilities, wellbeing services, and beautifully designed communal spaces that promote comfort, security, and community living.
One of their flagship developments, Wadswick Green in Corsham, Wiltshire, is set within 25 acres of landscaped countryside and provides contemporary retirement living with a wide range of premium amenities, including wellness facilities, communal spaces, restaurants, and landscaped rooftop areas.
To maintain safe access for maintenance personnel working at height across the development, Rangeford Villages appointed Heightsafe to deliver a compliant roof safety solution that would protect operatives while preserving the aesthetic appearance of the building.
The Brief
Rangeford Villages required a safe and compliant solution to protect personnel accessing rooftop areas at Wadswick Green for routine maintenance and inspection activities. The roof areas required collective fall protection that would provide safe access for contractors and facilities teams working near exposed edges, while also remaining visually sympathetic to the high-end appearance of the development.
The client also required a safe means of roof access, with a compliant access hatch system that would allow operatives to transition securely between internal and external roof areas. As with all occupied residential environments, minimising disruption during installation and ensuring long-term reliability were key considerations throughout the project.
The Solution
Following a detailed site assessment, Heightsafe specified and installed the Kee Guard FoldShield Freestanding Folding Guardrail System alongside a compliant roof access hatch solution.
Kee Guard FoldShield is a non-penetrative, freestanding guardrail system designed specifically for buildings where permanent edge protection is required without compromising the roof membrane. The folding design made it particularly suitable for Wadswick Green, as the system can be lowered when not in use, significantly reducing visual impact from ground level while still providing fully compliant collective fall protection when deployed.
The system was strategically installed around the required roof access and maintenance areas to provide continuous edge protection for operatives carrying out planned maintenance works. The accompanying roof access hatch created a safe and controlled access point onto the roof, improving overall safety for anyone required to work at height on the building.
All installation works were completed by Heightsafe’s experienced engineers in accordance with relevant British Standards and Work at Height Regulations, ensuring the system was fully compliant and ready for use upon completion.
The Outcome
The completed installation has provided Rangeford Villages with a discreet, effective, and fully compliant roof safety system that enhances safety for maintenance personnel while maintaining the premium aesthetic of the Wadswick Green development.
By utilising the Kee Guard FoldShield folding guardrail system, Heightsafe was able to deliver robust collective fall protection without the need for intrusive permanent barriers or roof penetration. The folding functionality allows the guardrail to remain out of sight when not in use, helping preserve the architectural appearance of the property while still ensuring safe access for future maintenance works.
The addition of the roof access hatch has further improved operational safety by providing a dedicated and secure point of entry to rooftop areas, reducing risks associated with accessing the roof for inspection and maintenance activities.
