With over 25 years of industry experience, Greenchurch have built a strong reputation for delivering exceptional projects that meet the highest standards of quality, safety and compliance. Their client-focused approach has resulted in many long-standing partnerships and repeat commissions.

The Brief

Greenchurch Developments contacted Heightsafe during their design and planning stage for a new care home development in Leicester. This wasn’t their first development in Leicester, having built a 67-bedroom, dementia friendly care home in the area in 2016.

As part of the build, photovoltaic (PV) panels were to be installed across the roof area, alongside a range of plant equipment. Greenchurch required a comprehensive fall protection solution to allow safe access for ongoing inspection, maintenance, cleaning and repair works — while remaining as discreet as possible to complement the building’s traditional aesthetic.

Early engagement with Heightsafe allowed access and safety considerations to be seamlessly integrated into the building design, ensuring compliance with current health and safety legislation without compromising the architectural intent.

The Solution

The care home was designed to a high specification, featuring premium facilities including cinemas, music rooms, salons, and spacious en-suite bedrooms. Externally, the building incorporated a combination of flat and pitched roof elements, presenting a complex access challenge that required a carefully considered approach.

Given the traditional appearance of the building, Greenchurch specified a discreet fall protection solution rather than a visually intrusive perimeter guardrail system. Following detailed consultation and site assessment, Heightsafe designed and installed a number of bespoke Kee Line horizontal safety line systems, providing continuous fall protection across all key roof access areas.

The systems were strategically configured to allow safe movement across flat roof sections, enabling operatives to access PV panels and rooftop plant safely and efficiently. This solution ensured:

  • Full compliance with Work at Height Regulations
  • Unobtrusive integration with the building design
  • Minimal visual impact on the completed development

Safe, continuous access for future maintenance teams

By working closely with Greenchurch and the wider project team, Heightsafe ensured that the systems were seamlessly incorporated into the build programme, avoiding delays while delivering a robust, long-term safety solution.

The Outcome

The completed installation provides Greenchurch Developments with a reliable, low-profile access system that ensures the ongoing safety of maintenance personnel while protecting the visual integrity of the building.

The horizontal Kee Line safety line systems enables safe inspection, cleaning and maintenance of the PV panels and rooftop plant, helping to maximise operational efficiency and extend the lifespan of installed assets. Importantly, it also supports compliance with health and safety legislation, reducing risk and long-term liability for building owners and facilities management teams.

By engaging Heightsafe early in the project, Greenchurch benefited from a fully integrated fall protection solution that complements the overall quality and design of the development — delivering both functional performance and aesthetic excellence.
