The Client
Plaza 1821, situated in the heart of Liverpool’s waterfront dock redevelopment area, features more than 100 one- and two-bedroom apartments complete with stunning views across the water and the city.
Plaza 1821 is named after the year Princes Dock opened and is just minutes away from the famous Three Graces buildings – The Royal Liver Building, Cunard Building and Port of Liverpool Building.
The Brief
Being in such an iconic location means the building must be maintained to a very high standard, including regular window cleans and ensuring all systems are running smoothly.
A comprehensive Roof Safety System is needed to ensure access is available to all areas of the façade, for cleaning and maintenance purposes.
Heightsafe were contacted to design the best system for the building, including safe access while on the roof area, and for operatives who are required to abseil down the building façade.
The Solution
Our estimating team worked with the building plans to decide which systems could be used, considering the need for façade access and the tight space on the roof due to the Photovoltaic Panels installed on the roof. These solar panels would also need regular access for maintenance, and so Safety Line Systems were devised for the roof space to allow safe navigation around the panels.
Davit sockets complete with Davit Arm Systems were installed at intervals around the perimeter of the roof, providing a complete access solution to the façade.
The Outcome
Upon completion of the installation, Heightsafe were then asked to provide bi-annual Compliance Testing on the systems, to ensure they are safe to use, and in good working order. Our engineers attend site to carry out inspections, load-testing and certification of every Davit socket and post, as well as the safety lines on site.
We provide a full report and summary to our client, to certify the systems safe for use. Maintenance and cleaning can then continue to take place using the systems, to keep the façade of the building looking clean and tidy.
