Lightning Protection Installation

Updated: 31st August 2023

Shield your people and assets from the devastating effects of a Lightning strike to your commercial, industrial, or domestic property with Heightsafe’s specialist systems.

Surge Arrest Installation

Heightsafe design, install, test and certify Lightning Protection and Surge Arrest Systems for properties up and down the UK. From traditional Faraday Cage style systems that use the natural elements of the building, consisting of copper bonding surrounding the perimeter of a building with a number of earthing pits; to utilising early streaming emission technology that creates a ‘bubble’ of protection around your building – our team will work with you to design a bespoke system that meets your building requirements and project budget.

Heightsafe can supply or supply and fit Surge Protection Systems, which will be completed by a qualified electrician in line with the relevant British Standards, providing the highest level of protection against a lightning strike.

Heightsafe Systems undertake Lightning Protection installations maintenance and compliance testing nationwide to many industrial, commercial, educational, domestic and healthcare structures.

Structures at a greater than average risk include:

Historic buildings, such as abbeys and churches

Medical facilities such as hospitals

Chemical plants or explosive storage

High rise and very tall commercial and residential buildings

Water treatment works

Department stores

Power distribution facilities

Solar and gas farms

Telephone and switch exchanges

Buildings with a large surface area

Legislation and Standards

Lightning Protection Systems from Heightsafe are installed and tested to IEC/BS EN 62305:2012 parts 1-4 or NFC-17-102:2012, and COMAH 2015 and DSEAR 2002 regulations. We offer compliance testing services to ensure your building, people and contents stay safe for years after it has been installed.

Lightnight Protection System Installations – Our Process

Heightsafe Systems will undertake a risk assessment in line with BSEN 62305 (a four part standard first introduced in 2005, but revised in 2012 for easier reference), to assess the requirement for a lightning protection system, and to what level one would be required. This includes looking at the soil resistivity and provide solutions where areas of ground quality are poor.

On completion we will:

Provide a full design, installation and ongoing cost effective maintenance package

Identify any surge protection solutions

Provide computerised appraisals for the need for lightning protection

In deciding whether a structure requires a system, you must consider that failure to provide this protection, could result in insurance policies becoming invalidated, apart from the obvious physical damage to people, structures and business continuity.

Our work is planned and carried out in accordance with the most stringent health and safety guidelines, with particular focus on minimum disruption and aesthetics.
