Safety Handrails

Last Updated 20th May 2022

Safety Handrails provide a collective measure of Edge Protection for those working at height. They can be permanently fixed to a roof or similar surface or temporary systems, providing flexible and safe options for all roof spaces.

What is a Safety Handrail System?

Safety Handrail Systems or Guardrail Systems are also often referred to as Edge Protection Systems, as they act as a barrier to the edge of the building to protect those working at height from falling below.

A Safety Handrail can also refer to the banister that often accompanies a staircase or walkway system, which provides support when walking and accessing areas that are otherwise difficult to navigate without one.

Safety Handrails from Heightsafe

Heightsafe are the UK’s leading Work at Height specialists and provide many different solutions to protect those working at height. For a permanent solution, we offer Safety Handrails that can be Fixed to a roof parapet, staircase, steps, walkway, or similar edge. Heightsafe can also provide Freestanding Safety Handrail Systems, where penetrating the roof or other surface isn’t possible or desired.

Collapsible Guardrail and Handrail Systems can be hidden from view when not in use and are ideal for historic structures and other buildings where access is required but may affect the aesthetics of the building if they were always in view. Finally, Heightsafe Safety Handrails are available for hire only, which is a cost-effective alternative to a using scaffolding or installing a more permanent system.

Heightsafe Handrail and Guardrail systems can be supplied in aluminium, stainless steel or can be powder coated to suit your colour requirements. All systems are corrosion resistant and are suitable for indoor and outdoor use.

Safety Handrail Testing and Maintenance Requirements

Heightsafe not only install and supply Handrail and Guardrail Systems, but also carry out necessary compliance testing and any additional remedial works that may be required to the systems. It is recommended that edge protection systems are tested at a minimum of once every 12 months, depending on frequency of use. This is to ensure all systems are in good condition and will correctly do their job to provide a safe and secure fall protection solution.
